PETA Names Melt’s Classic ‘Kindergarten’ One of the Top Five Vegan Sandwiches
CLEVELAND, OHIO – Melt Bar & Grilled, a Cleveland favorite for gourmet grilled cheese sandwich creations, and its signature “Kindergarten” grilled cheese sandwich has been included in PETA’s Top Five Vegan Sandwiches list to mark National Sandwich Month.
PETA, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, listed the best and most delectable vegan sandwiches in the country, and recognized Melt for its classic “Kindergarten,” with a choice of cheeses melted hot and gooey between two slices of fresh-baked bread, then grilled to perfection. The grown-up version of what mom used to make.
Melt is also a PETA favorite for making nearly any Melt selection the vegan way.
“The next time that you’re in Ohio near the Cleveland area, stop at Melt’s Lakewood or Cleveland Heights locations and reminisce about your childhood over ‘The Kindergarten,’ which can come with either cheddar or mozzarella style vegan cheese,” says the PETA article, featured at http://www.peta.org/features/petas-top-five-vegan-sandwiches.aspx this month. “Other awesome veganizable options include the Spinach Pie, the Mushroom Melt, and the Firecracker Chicken (just ask for them to be made vegan!).
“There’s nothing more versatile than a sandwich,” PETA continues. “Appropriate for just about any season and meal, you can throw together a sandwich for a quick and easy lunch or dress it up as dinner’s delectable main course. With so many different options for the fillings, condiments, and types of bread, the combinations are endless—no two sandwiches need be alike! Because August is National Sandwich Month, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite vegan sandwiches from across the U.S.”
Rounding out the top five were Strange Matter in Richmond, Va.; Marie Catrib’s of Grand Rapids, Mich.; The Remedy Diner in Raleigh in N.C., and Sugar Plum Vegan, Sacramento, Calif.
Melt was also recently touted as one of the top 10 best sports bars in the country by “ESPN The Magazine.”
This summer, Melt unveiled a new website at www.meltbarandgrilled.com—a place for everything Melt, from rave reviews to the story behind the popular restaurant chain to an online store for dedicated Melt aficionados. The new Melt site is a central hub for all three Melt locations: on the Eastside at 14718 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood, on the Westside at 13436 Cedar Road in Cleveland Heights, and opening soon in the South at Liberty Commons on Rockside Road in Independence.
Melt is not only a local favorite but has garnered national attention from the likes of The Food Network’s “Diner’s, Drive-ins and Dives,” “USA Today,” Esquire” magazine, “ESPN The Magazine,” “The Boston Globe,” FOX News’ Greta Van Susteren and The Travel Channel’s “Man vs. Food.” The “Melt Challenge” episode is set to air in June. Accolades for the groundbreaking menu items include “Cleveland Magazine’s” Best Sandwich and “Esquire’s” One of the Best Sandwiches in America list.
