Brewing beer in Belgium since 1871 Duvel certainly knows how to make a great beer. Our friends at Duval USA are releasing the 2013 version of Duvel Triple Hop and Melt Cleveland Heights will be the Ohio launch location on Thursday, May 30th at 6pm. The beers confirmed for the celebration are the 2013 Duvel Triple Hop featuring Citra hops as the different 3rd hop variety with characteristic grapefruit and tropical fruit notes, Duvel Single, Ommegang Witte, Ommegang Rare Vos and Ommegang Art of Darkness!! Plus, a special undisclosed selection from Ommegang on draft announced at the release party and tapped at 6pm.

Adding to this already amazing celebration of beer Melt will be offering our very first Beer Dinner featuring all beers mentioned above. The beer dinner will consist of 5 courses accompanied by 5 different beers from Duvel and Ommegang. Tickets will be $40 per person and a strict limit of 45 seats are available for this possibly once-in-a-lifetime event at Melt Bar and Grilled. Melt’s Sandwich of the Month for May is The Prime Time Beef Au Jus Melt, with tender slow-roasted beef, cheesy roasted garlic mashed red-skin potatoes, zippy horseradish sauce, horseradish, chive white cheddar and a deliciously rich au jus for dipping. Vegetarian and vegan versions available.

Pair the “Prime Time” with Melt’s beer feature, Stone Double Dry Hopped Ruination IPA. With a wonderfully delicious and intensely bitter flavor on a refreshing malt base, the brew has been called “a liquid poem to the glory of the hop!” Those who seek, crave and rejoice in beers with big, bold, bitter character will find true nirvana in Stone Ruination IPA. This special batch of Stone Double Hopped Ruination was brewed exclusively for Melt.

As May opens the door to summer, Melt pops the top on its Citron Summa Sparkler.This “welcome to summer cocktail” was created by one of Melt’s resident liquor experts and mixologists Eric Ho in Lakewood. Fresh lemons are crushed with cane sugar and simple syrup, covered with ice then shaken with Absolut Citron Vodka and Crème de Cassis. Poured over ice and then topped off with bubbly champagne, the Sparkler is garnished with a simple lemon wedge to make it complete.

May’s dessert of the month is The Wookiee’s Revenge—rich chocolate and caramelized banana bread pudding loaded with hickory-smoked bacon and chunks of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, then topped with a chocolate and peanut butter glaze, toasted coconut and garnished with real whipped cream, chocolate sauce, toasted coconut flakes and crumbled bacon.

“Food Paradise” is an occasional Travel Channel feature that looks into the biggest, best and all-around most spectacular items of note in a particular food category. The March 6 episode is titled “Cheese” and will pay homage to “The Melt Challenge,” a monster grilled cheese featuring 13 different cheeses, three slices of grilled bread and a pile of hand-cut fries and slaw. Over five pounds of food! Those who take the challenge and emerge victorious are inducted into the Melt Challenge Hall of Fame. Other episodes have focused on hamburgers, hot dogs, steak, breakfast, diners, sausage, pizza, ribs and cookies, among other food favorites.

The upcoming “Food Paradise” episode isn’t the first time the Travel Channel has delved into the Melt Challenge. In 2010, “Man v. Food” host Adam Richman conquered the challenge himself—in just 45 minutes.

According to program notes, the episode will feature a “triple-decker grilled cheese sandwich in Cleveland; lobster-stuffed mac and cheese in New York; (and) a fiery cheese spectacular in Chicago.” “Food Paradise: Cheese” will air again at 1 a.m. March 7.
