Melt plans celebrations in May

CLEVELAND, OHIO – It’s a month to remember at Melt Bar & Grilled, a Cleveland-area favorite for gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, as Melt celebrates recent accolades, Cinco de “Melto,” Star Wars, moms and the Case Western Reserve campus.

Melt kicked off May with more fan-driven accolades. First, Melt was once again called the home of the Best Sandwich in Scene Magazine’s recent Best of Cleveland issue, as well as for Cleveland Magazine’s Silver Spoon Awards. Melt’s newest location in Columbus was also named the Best Restaurant by 614 Magazine, as well as Columbus Alive Magazine; 614 also named Melt as Best Bar Food. And Melt was recently named a 2014 A List Restaurant by the Cleveland Plain Dealer and

All month long, Melt Bar & Grilled will celebrate Cinco de “Melto,” with the Sandwich of the Month—The Sanchez: a cheese enchilada, refried beans, tamale fritters, a diablo-spiced crispy corn tortilla, shredded lettuce, Cheddar cheese, fresh-made salsa and cilantro lime sour cream. The Sanchez is delicious vegetarian option, but chicken, pork, beef or shrimp can be added.

May’s beer feature is Stone Chipotle Smoked Porter. With just the right amount of heat through smoked jalapeños (aka chipotles), the peppery taste combines beautifully with the beer’s peat-smoked malt and roasty character. Or, try Melt’s drink feature, the El Bandito, with fresh lemon wedges and jalapeños, crushed then shaken with Cuervo Silver Tequila, blood orange juice and simple syrup for a sweet citrusy cocktail with a slight spicy kick.

Keeping with the Cinco de Mayo theme, Melt’s dessert feature for May is Mexican Style Flan Bread Pudding: a sweet flan bread pudding with caramelized sugar flan syrup, vanilla ice cream, fresh whipped cream, maraschino cherries and cinnamon sugar.

But Cinco de Mayo isn’t the only global event Melt is focusing on in May. Melt will celebrate International Star Wars Day on May the 4th weekend—May 2-4—and feature two special Star Wars-themed sandwiches and drinks all weekend.

The first sandwich, representing The Galactic Empire and The Dark Side, is Vader’s Thai Fighter Melt: soft rice noodles, bean sprouts, scrambled egg, peanuts, scallions, a rich Pad Thai sauce, fresh lime and Pepper Jack cheese; available with tofu, chicken or shrimp. To go along with the Vader Thai Fighter is The Vader drink feature: a deep and bitter character but with a slightly sweet side, with Bulleit Rye, sweet vermouth, house-made Grenadine, simple syrup, and fresh grapefruit and lime juice.

The second sandwich, representing The Rebel Alliance and The Force, is the Obi Wan Cannoli Melt: crisp cannoli shells, sweet and creamy ricotta cheese, maraschino cherries, dark chocolate chunks and sweet cream cheese, battered and deep-fried then topped with powdered sugar. Pair it with the Skywalker drink feature: a beverage to pay homage to Luke’s soft features and boyish charm, with Bacardi Rum, Blue Curaco liquor, hard apple cider, simple sugar and fresh lime juice.

Additionally, two Star Wars-themed beer features will be available for May the 4th weekend. Revolution Brewing Deth’s Tar is a Russian imperial stout, aged in four different types of bourbon barrels (Old Fitzgerald, Old Forester, Elijah Craig and Evan Williams), then blended for the resulting thick and dark brew. Then, Brew Kettle Dark Helmet is a true Brew Kettle original that kicks this German-style black lager up a notch. The smooth lager taste with a touch of roast and is deceptively easy drinking (available only at the Lakewood and Columbus Melt locations).

Melt Bar & Grilled will also release a special Melt Star Wars t-shirt on May the 4th weekend. The black shirt with the Melt name in a Star Wars-style font, also features the iconic Melt grilled cheese logo on the back and will be available at all Melt locations and online beginning May 2.

Melt will also celebrate moms with its special Sunday Brunch Menu on Mother’s Day, May 11, featuring new signature breakfast and brunch sandwiches along with new Bloody Mary options. The new brunch menu will be available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Sunday in May, alongside Melt’s regular award-winning menu, and will feature options such as the Wake & Bacon, Chorizo Potato Hash & Eggs, Corned Beef Hash & Eggs, the Breakfast Club Melt, Chicken ‘n Waffles, Stuffed French Toast, the Southern Fried Melt, the Crabby Benedict and the Breakfast Burger.

This month, Melt and the Bon Appétit Management Company will announce to Case Western Reserve University students that “Melt University” is coming to their campus. The quick-service Melt spin-off will open at the new Tinkham Veale University Center at Case Western Reserve at the end of August. It is Melt’s first foray onto the college campus.

“We are focusing on quick service for both lunch and dinner without losing the Melt experience,” said Melt owner Matt Fish. Guests can expect to see eight to ten signature Melt gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches on the menu, with an exclusive Case Western-themed sandwich only available at the new “Melt University” location. Along with the signature sandwiches, students and patrons can look forward to Melt’s famous roasted garlic tomato soup, the classic grilled cheese companion, and two specialty salads. The Melt University location at Case will be operated seven days a week for lunch and dinner in partnership with Bon Appétit, Case’s food service provider since 2006.

Melt’s fresh, foodie fare will find its home on the ground floor of the new university center; the 82,000 square-foot structure is currently under construction. Upon completion, the building at the core of campus will house more than 160 student organizations, a restaurant and ballroom and five retail food concepts.
